Hey there, I’m Chris Rouman. I’m going to make this quick. I want to introduce you to a podcast that I’m creating, called Nerd Adjacent. and I want to give you a little background about me. I have a couple decades of software product and usability design experience and I’m also a part-time voice actor. Weird, I know. But I’m a guy who can’t stop trying new things. I love technology and have integrated all sorts of things into my personal life and of course into my work in software.

Like so many of you, I feel pretty comfortable using technology. I order things I don’t need online, I stream things on my smart TV, I’ve added smart devices to our super old house to alert me to package deliveries, to thwart intruders, to keep our house at a perfect temp or to remotely unlock the door when we need the neighbor to come water our plants because I forgot… again. That kind of stuff is great!

But the thing that I’m not always comfortable with is how these technologies work. It’s one thing to use them but it’s another thing to actually understand how they do what they do. Technology already changes super fast, and now with the advent of artificial intelligence the speed at which things are evolving may feel mind-boggling to the point that we might stop paying attention all together because to try to wrap your head around how it all works is just too much effort, or quite frankly, too scary. This is why I decided to hit record.

Because it’s so top of mind, I’m going to start talking about the basics of AI. My goal is to learn with you by distilling complex ideas into more relatable examples. In this way, I’m hoping that we can all be better informed, prepared, and maybe more comfortable with these technologies that already are and will be integrated into our daily lives.

I’m calling the podcast, Nerd Adjacent because, while I’m pretty comfortable with technology and according to my wife, friends and all my family and colleagues I’m super nerdy on paper, there’s still plenty that I don’t know and that I would love to continue to learn. So doing this podcast provides me with the motivation to dig into it as well as an outlet to hear myself talk which is one of my favorite pastimes. Just ask my wife.

So, let’s do this! I’m Chris Rouman, and I’m Nerd Adjacent.
